This bench in the form of an open book allows you to share and read together the extracts from Marie Mauron's works that have been selected to showcase the immense talent of this great ‘poetess’.

Marie MAURON, La Colette provençale. (St Rémy de Pce 1896 – St Rémy de Pce 1986).
Writer and poet, Félibresse, Major of the Félibrige, Officier des Arts et des Lettres, Chevalier des Palmes Académiques, Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur. Marie Mauron came from a farming family in St Rémy de Pce.
A teacher, she taught in Les Baux and St Rémy before resigning from the Education Nationale.
1937 saw the start of a major writing career in both French and Provençal. She published numerous novels, stories, legends, memoirs, biographies and monographs.
Heir to the great Provençal poets, she spent years singing about her land, its legends and its traditions.
Nicknamed the ‘Provençal Colette’, she knew how to engage in terrible battles to defend her Provence against the powers of money, including the State, industry and developers.
She was elected Major of the Félibrige from 1969 to 1986. She is buried in the cemetery of St Rémy de Pce.

The Maussane les Alpilles multimedia library has a remarkable collection of Marie Mauron books and unpublished original plates, including a herbarium that she lovingly created in the Alpilles countryside.
